Makedonka Baloski (“Miki”) grew up in northwest Indiana where many of her family members and friends still reside. In 1996, she graduated from Indiana University with a double major in History and Anthropology. She also earned a Certificate of Study from the Russian & Eastern European studies program. After college, she interned for a U.S. Congressman and became inspired to apply to law school. She received a J.D. from Valparaiso University School of Law with a certificate of concentration in Alternative Dispute Resolution and also in International Law in 2000. Her law school activities included: serving as Articles Editor for the Valparaiso University Law Review, participating in Jessup International Moot Court, interning at the US Embassy in Macedonia and assisting with the filming and production of a documentary about the Holocaust in the Balkans. In 2000, she was the recipient of the Corpus Jurus Secondum Award for most overall contributions to Valparaiso University School of Law.
Upon admission to the Illinois bar, Makedonka joined an established Chicago law firm which mainly focused its practice in defending commercial claims for various trucking companies and their carriers. She later worked as Staff Counsel for an insurance company and a civil defense law firm defending toxic exposure cases. She is also admitted to practice in Indiana.
Miki now lives in a northwest suburb of Chicago with her 2 sons and husband. You can often find her rink side watching her boys play hockey, taking them to school events or Cub Scout outings. She is active in running the PTO. Miki enjoys collaborating with others and helping people execute their legal goals. Currently, she is heading the firm’s estate planning department. Helping people organize their legal affairs is her passion.
