  RECENT NEWS & CASES

 

George Bellas recently argued an appeal before the U.S. 7th Circuit Court of Claims on behalf of a former employee of Motorola's Rockford Service Plant who was harassed after he exercised his rights to a medical leave of absence under the Family Medical Leave Act.  The former employee is seeking compensation for lost wages, lost medical benefits and future lost wages. Bill Bonzos recently settled a case on behalf of an employer who was charged by the U.S. Department of Labor with having failed to pay overtime wages.

 

Misty Cygan successfully presented a motion for summary judgment on behalf of a delivery service whose contract was wrongfully broken by a nursing home.  The case is now set on the issues of damages only.

 

George Bellas and Bill Bonzos are defending a group of former employees of an insurance agency which is trying to keep the former sales reps from working in the industry for themselves. 

 

George Bellas recently successfully defended a home contractor who was sued by a homeowner for allegedly doing defective work.

 

George Bellas recently settled a lawsuit on behalf of a family against a tire manufacturer for defects in a tire which caused the SUV to roll over on the interstate.  Fortunately, no one was injured. 

 

George Bellas recently served as a speaker and moderator for the Illinois State Bar Association's Allerton Conference, which is by invitation only and whose purpose is to explore topics and suggest recommendations as to the legislative program of the State Bar. 

 

George Bellas serves on the 7th Circuit e-Discovery Pilot Program which has established guidelines for the courts and lawyers in dealing with the discovery and production of electronic information in litigation.
